Looks like the view I grew up seeing. And my poor mother…when we were smaller Lisa and I, along with many other neighborhood kids would play amongst the reeds, and it didn’t take long to figure out that if we hit eachother with the cattails they burst apart and flung the seeds everywhich way. Mom used to vacuum the cattail fuzz off of our coats before we were allowed back inside.

Sounds like a wonderful game! I want to try frying them this summer… I’ve heard they taste like chicken. There’s a small window of time when they are immature enough to eat. I have eaten the stems before (or maybe the roots?) at a potluck.
